Belgium’s national football team surprised the football world on Wednesday with the appointment of its new manager, Roberto Martinez. The Spaniard was selected as the Red Devils’ new trainer, succeeding Marc Wilmots. Martinez has spent the last several years coaching in England, but was sacked earlier this year for underperformance at Everton.

Belgium was looking for a new manager since Wilmots’ resignation in July, following the national team’s disappointing prestation at Euro 2016. The Red Devils chose Martinez, who is now tasked with leading the Belgians to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
