Belgium is the 10th best country in the world to be a mother, according to an annual survey by the NGO Save the Children. Norway is the best country in the world to be a mother and Somalia is the worst, claims the organisation.
The US, in 33rd place, came in well behind the Scandanvian countries which traditionally dominate the organisation’s survey. The survey looks at 179 countries and ranks countries according to a series of criteria like maternal health, education, income levels and the status of women.
Finland, which came first last year, fell to second place this year, and Australia, which is ranked 9th, is the only non-European country in the top ten. Canada is in 20th place, ahead of France (23rd) and the UK (24th).
