Management of Brussels Airport have reported that Airport served a record number of passengers in the first half of this year
11.55 million people used Zaventem terminal between January and June of this year and it’s up 6.3% compared with the same period in 2015. “This is an absolute record,” the airport said in a news release.
The figures from two years ago were used for comparison because passenger numbers in the first half of 2016 were hit by the Brussels terror attacks.
In June alone, 2.2 million passengers used Brussels Airport, a 1.1% rise on June 2015.
Last month, Brussels Airport Company unveiled an amibitious new target to double the number of passengers it serves by 2040, from 21.8 million to about 45 million, creating thousands of new jobs.
The overall vision was based on global trends in travel and aviation, and the assumption that by 2040 the world population will be nearly nine billion.
