The Belgian Royal Meteorological Institute has confirmed that Monday’s temperature in Brussels was the highest ever seen so late in the year.

The Uccle observatory recorded 25.7°C on Monday afternoon, beating the previous 16 October record of 22.4°C back in 1949.

Four October days in history have been warmer than yesterday – but they all occurred earlier in the month. The absolute record for the month was 26.9°C on 1 October 2011.
