Child benefit is paid by Belgium to families abroad

In 2015, Belgium paid €106.2 million in child benefit money to support 60,538 children living abroad.

The amount, which represents 1.69% of the state’s total child benefit costs, went to families in more than 90 countries, writes Het Laatste Nieuws.

The largest number of Belgian children living abroad were in France (34,389), followed by the Netherlands (9,520), Poland (5,667), Romania (2,068), Morocco (1,353), Spain (1,097), Italy (679) Portugal (657) and the United States (596).
