Belgian Socialist Philippe Close is going to become the new mayor of the City of Brussels, write various Belgian media.
The position of Mayor of Brussels capital became vacant after the resignation of Mr Close’s party colleague Yvan Mayeur.
Close worked as a municipal councilor responsible for tourism, personnel and finances in the Belgian capital. He also led the French-speaking Socialist Party in the Brussels parliament.
Mayeur, who took office in 2013, resigned Thursday evening after corruption scandal.
