Brussels tobacco association will compensate clean-up of cigarette ends

Brussels capital region is going to request €200,000 from the local tobacco industry to help clean-up the capital’s streets.

Last month, neighbourhood groups organised clean-ups, filling bins with spent cigarettes and putting them on show to illustrate the enormity of the problem.

Flanders had the similar problem and the federation helped to pay for the special cigarette receptacles built directly into the sidewalks in front of public.

Brussels is hoping to get similar commitment.
