Belgium came fourth in the Eurovision Song Contest, which aired last Saturday night live from Vienna. It was Wallonia’s turn to choose the country’s candidate, and a talent show search served up 19-year-old Loïc Nottet and his song Rhythm Inside, a fast-paced New Wave number that was a favourite among audiences and commentators during the semi-finals.
It is Belgium’s best finish at Eurovision since 2003, when folk band Urban Trad came in second. Nottet got 217 votes in the final, compared to Italy’s 292 points in third, Russia’s 303 points in second and winner Sweden’s 365 points. Swedish singer Mans Zelmerlöw won with his pop song Heroes.
Rhythm Inside is playing on radio stations across Europe and is in the top five in 17 countries as of today. It is in Belgium’s top spot for downloads on iTunes.
