Club Brugge haven beaten Mouscron-Peruwelz 3-0 with three second-half goals. José Izquierdo just after the restart and one minute later Tom De Sutter doubled the lead. In the final minutes of the game Timmy Simons slotted home from the spot. But Victor Vazquez severe ankle injury put a damper on the festivities.
Michel Preud’homme returned to his more familiar 4-3-3 line-up. Stefano Denswil replaced Duarte in the heart of defence, De Bock returned on the left-hand side and forced Davy De fauw back on the bench. Tom De Sutter started upfront as Oulare was out injured.
But the coach had a surprise for the fans. Bolingoli started as right wing forward and created the first danger of the game, forcing a save from Cros. A few minutes before Vandendriessche had tested Ryan, but he didn’t even have to move. It took Club about fifteen minutes to up the tempo and create a few good chances. Refaelov couldn’t tap in Vazquez’ free-kick and the Spaniard was denied twice himself.
The visitors were not troubled too much by The Blues who lacked pace and off the ball action. Still, the hosts had a few opportunities to break the deadlock. Bolingoli missed a free header on a Vazquez cross, Cros saved with his foot when De Sutter deviated a cross behind his support leg and the goalkeeper paid good attention when Vazquez’ corner kick was sailing towards the far corner. Just before the break Refaelov’s long-range shot whizzed just over the bar. The visitors had one chance, but Boli deflected the ball over the crossbar.
On the stroke of half-time Victor Vazquez had to be helped off the pitch with a severe ankle injury. José Izquierdo replaced the Catalan with a blast. The forward took advantage from a hesitation between Kevin Boli and goalkeeper Cros and fired into the empty net. A few minutes before Mouscron-Peruwelz had almost taken the lead, but Ryan parried away Rodelin’s free-kick.
How poor it was in the first half, how smoothly the second half started. A minute after the opening goal Club Brugge doubled the lead. Vormer struck the post from outside the box, but Tom De Sutter stabbed in the rebound from closeby.
There wasn’t much to note down after that second goal, apart from Bolingoli’s shot that scuffed just wide. But in the dying minutes of the game goalkeeper Cros brought down the subbed on Tuur Dierckx and the referee had no alternative than to point to the spot. Timmy Simons stepped up and gave the fans another goal to cheer for.
