A treasure trove has been discovered by demolition workers at an empty house in the Finistère region of Brittany, France.
The workers in the town of Pont-Aven discovered a lead container that looked like a shell.
Inside, they found 600 Belgian gold coins dating from 1870, bearing the head of Belgian King Léopold II.
The French Gendarmerie were informed and sealed the treasure.
Le Bihan said the owner of the house was not surprised, “because his grandfather was a collectioner”.
The value of the haul is likely to be over €100,000. According to French law, treasure belongs equally to the persons who discover it and those who own the ground where the discovery was made.
