brussels_2

The pedestrian zone at Rue du Midi and Rue des Grands Carmes will be governed by retractable bollards, From 1 September.

The short, sturdy vertical posts are designed to block traffic and prevent ram raiding.

The new automatic system will be activated next week. Such Bollards are already in place at a few access points to the pedestrian zone, such as Rue de l’Étuve near Manneken Pis.

Those who want to drive through the pedestrian area need a special badge or code, which can be applied for via the City of Brussels website.
