Businesswoman Jamie McCourt has been nominated by US President Donald Trump to become the new US ambassador to France. It was declared by the White House on Wednesday.
The nomination is remarkable for the fact that the president has already announced his intention to appoint McCourt as US ambassador to Belgium.
The proposal to nominate McCourt as ambassador in Paris was sent to the Senate, which still has to approve the ambassador’s appointment.
The White House announcement clearly states that the Senate no longer needs to provide a response to the previous appointment of McCourt as ambassador to Belgium. That nomination, sent to the Senate on 26 June, has been withdrawn for reasons still unclear.
The 63-year-old attorney and businesswoman Jamie McCourt formerly headed the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, and has no experience as a diplomat. She supported Trump during his election campaign in 2016.
