Employers’ organisation Unizo and business information bureau Graydon recorded growth of 4.8 % in start-ups number during first seven months of this year compared to the same period of the previous year.

“Brussels remains attractive in terms of business opportunities,” says Unizo.

“And it continues to draw in many foreign entrepreneurs.”

In the first half of this year, 6,994 new businesses were registered in Brussels, compared to 6,676 in the same period in 2015. There is an increase of 4.8%.

The Walloon Region showed a 3.5% increase in the number of start-ups so far this year, while Flanders leads the country with 7% more start-ups than in 2015.

“The increase in the number of start-ups is certainly hopeful,” says Anton Van Assche of Unizo. “This means that Brussels – despite the difficult circumstances of recent months – remains attractive for entrepreneurs.
