To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) on Saturday, more than 200 monuments and landmarks across 45 countries will be lit up blue. Museums, bridges and other famous sites will also be illuminated for the occasion.

After the campaign ‘Turn the World UN Blue’ kicks off in New Zealand on 24 October, the blue wave will slowly make its way around the world. Belgium is also taking part, with the illumination of its Grand Place and City Hall, Flagey and Bozar in Brussels, in addition to several sites across the country.

The global event marks the anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter in 1945, which is celebrated every year on 24 October as United Nations Day.
